I’m Laura McNicholas, a birth and postnatal doula offering calm, practical, and compassionate support to families through pregnancy, birth, and the early weeks after birth. I also work collaboratively with other doulas, providing backup and shared-care support, with a focus on continuity, communication, and respect.
Originally from the United States, I’ve been living in the UK since 2010. I have two children of my own, and becoming a parent has deepened my understanding of how important it is to feel supported, listened to, and cared for during times of change.
I’ve always had an interest in caring for women, babies, and families, and this was further sparked when I supported my sister-in-law through the birth of her daughter. Being alongside her during that experience reinforced how powerful calm, steady, and informed support can be, and it confirmed that becoming a doula was the right path for me.
My approach is down-to-earth and hands-on. I value listening carefully, offering reassurance when it’s needed, and supporting each family in a way that feels right for them. I believe good doula care is as much about presence as it is about practical support.
Outside of my doula work, I enjoy simple pleasures — a cup of tea, cake (I have a definite sweet tooth), a good book and a shared laugh. I bring this same warmth and ease into my work, helping people feel comfortable and supported.
I trained with Nurturing Birth and am fully insured. I’m committed to ongoing learning, reflection, and mentoring beyond my initial training, and I value working alongside other birth professionals.
I offer doula support across Wiltshire, primarily antenatal, postnatal and backup/shared-care support.
If you’re a family looking for support, or a doula interested in working together, I’d be very happy to hear from you.
